Super fighting robot, Mega Man, is making his way back to his main series in Mega Man 11! It’s been eight long years since the last installment of the franchise, Mega Man 10. Fans are excited for the latest Mega Man, as the series has been a major staple in gaming since 1987. Earlier this week, Capcom unveiled a pre-order trailer for their latest entry of the franchise.
There’s a lot going on here— and a lot of it is great. To start, the art and color palette are quite refreshing. The more recent Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 titles went back to the franchise roots of 8-bit graphics. Both were well-executed and successful callbacks, but it’s nice to see a crisp, updated art style.
Mega Man 11 will also bring back voice acting. The last instance of voice acting for the series was found in Mega Man 8, and we got shaky performances like the so-bad-it’s-good gem of “Dr. Wahwee”:
Mega Man games have a fairly specific formula both in story and mechanics. Though we don’t know every weapon or Dr. Wily henchman-boss players will come upon, Capcom sheds a bit of light on what’s new:
The newest entry in this iconic series blends classic, challenging 2D platforming action with a fresh look. The stunning new visual style refreshes the series’ iconic colorfulness, combining hand-drawn environments with detailed, 3D characters.
To save the day, the Blue Bomber must battle Robot Masters and take their powerful weapons for himself, which now changes the hero’s appearance with new levels of detail. The innovative new Double Gear system lets you boost Mega Man’s speed and power for a new twist on the satisfying gameplay the series is known for.
Mega Man 11 will available October 2 for PC on Steam, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The current pre-order price is $29.99. It should also be noted that the Nintendo Switch port will have a separate amiibo edition.
