Respawn Entertainment is almost ready to release their next title, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, a VR title and first for both the company and the franchise. The game launches this week on December 11, and just in the nick of time, Respawn has revealed what the requirements will be for PC. However, it looks like we’ll be needing either some new parts or brand new setup in order to run this, as the PC requirements for Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, are insanely high, possibly the highest we’ve ever seen for a PC title.
As reported by Polygon, the system requirements are in an of itself, above and beyond. You’ll need an Intel i7 9700K, or a compatible AMD processor, which is already very demanding. Then we get to the RAM (Random Access Memory) which is 16 GB DDR4, which isn’t too bad considering that most RIG’s start out with 12-14 before upgrading. The graphics card requirement is a staggering Nvidia GTX 2080 or higher, so if you were able to get your hands on the RTX 3080 or 3070, then consider yourself lucky here.
Finally, and most notably is the memory requirement: 340 GB of free space needed for installation/unpacking, which is then compressed into 170 GB of actual storage with a recommendation for an SSD (Solid State Drive). This is arguably the highest amount of storage that has ever been required for a PC title, which is also a testament to Respawn and how much they’ve put into the game. Another VR title that launched this year, Half-Life: Alyx, only required 68 GB, which was considered to be a lot at the time. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond has now usurped that number.
This is just another example of newer titles demanding more and more from their respective platforms. This is most evident with graphics-heavy experiences such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Microsoft Flight Simulator. As we move forward with new and expansive hardware, we should expect to see this trend continue, especially in the VR category. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond looks very promising, and we’ll find out if the game truly justifies those insane PC requirements.
