Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Gets Standalone Release Alongside Prequel Comic For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is finally getting a standalone edition for the PlayStation 5. Previously, the remaster was only available on PC or included in the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. The remaster is only said to be released “later this month.” For those who already bought the PlayStation 4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, there’s the option to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for only $10.

Marvel’s Spider-Man first released in 2018 as a high-budget AAA game and has since become a modern PlayStation classic. The game was collectively praised from the traversal throughout a realistic Manhattan as Spider-Man, to the rewarding combat, and engaging story. The remastered version came out in 2020 exclusively bundled with Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. Morales was one of the very first PlayStation 5 games to launch alongside the console, and while it wasn’t a full-fledged sequel–more like a 1.5– it was equally praised to its predecessor. Miles Morales and Spider-Man Remastered brought graphical updates to the environment, ray-tracing options, performance mode, DualSense features like haptic feedback, and Spatial 3D Audio.

The Remastered edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man also includes all three chapters of the originally released PlayStation 4 DLC, The City That Never Sleeps. The expansions, The Heist, Turf Wars, and Silver Lining are all set after the main campaign.

Along with today’s news of the standalone edition, PlayStation announced a prequel comic for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in celebration of Free Comic Book Day, Saturday, May 6th. Announced directly on the PlayStation blog they describe what the comic’s story will include: “What if Peter, Miles, and MJ had to team up against a new Super Villain whose powers they didn’t understand? Additionally, we wanted to make sure that we could get a peek into what this heroic trio has been doing since the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. What is Pete up to now that there are two Spider-Men in the city? How is Miles doing in school? And how is MJ’s journalism career going?”

The free comic only hypes up Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is still set to be released later this year and will likely become a bestseller. There’s been rumors that Sony will be having a showcase sometime soon, possibly prior to Summer Game Fest, but nothing has been confirmed or announced yet.
