Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Leaks Hint at Potential Villain

It seems that the news cycle of leaks still isn’t done with poor Insomniac, as a new wave of leaks have come out this time revealing a few data files for potential DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

As shown in the above files, it seems that Beetle will feature at least in some fashion in an upcoming piece of DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Something interesting to note is that the leak specifically mention “Beetle_Janice_Intro” as one of the files. “Beetle” is a villain title that has been passed down to a couple of people in Spider-Man’s villains gallery, and you can never put it past a Marvel property to bring out one of the more obscure holders to the spotlight, but it seems that Janice Lincoln, the current comic iteration of the Beetle, will retain her spot as the mantle’s holder for the upcoming DLC.

Janice is an interesting choice because her father is the Spider-Man villain Tombstone. Tombstone is a villain who was featured in both Spider-Man games, in the first he was a typical villain involved tangentially in the main plot of the game before being defeated and leaving Peter to move up to more important foes. He returns in the sequel as a carnival worker, attempting to reform before being hunted down by Kraven and has to be rescued by Spider-Man.

Janice becoming Beetle means that she becomes a criminal despite her father’s attempts at reform, so that will likely be a point of drama brought up and you can expect Tombstone to make a reappearance as well in the upcoming DLC. There are also parallels between her and Miles Morales, both being the second generation of a villain and hero respectively, so there could be an interesting dynamic there.

But this is all spitballing and speculation, we don’t know anything concrete about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC despite these leaks. Things are subject to change, and Ms. Lincoln could end up on the cutting room floor. Though, with Insomniac’s unfortunate track record with leaks lately, we might find out a lot more about this DLC sooner rather than later.
