Mario Kart 8 to Add Mercedes-Benz Kart

Mario Kart 8 racers looking for a new set of wheels are in for a treat; Nintendo have confirmed that it will release free DLC in the form of a Mercedes-Benz GLA-class kart for the Wii-U racer.

The announcement was initially made by Mercedes Benz Japan last month, but it is only now that Nintendo themselves have confirmed the news. This nifty piece of DLC will be making its way to Japanese, North American and European gamers this summer.

The DLC is part of a campaign to boost interest in the GLA class car in Japan, which also includes humorous commercials like this one:

Of course, the GLA class will be modified in Mario Kart 8 to more kart-like standards, sporting an open top that will allow its driver to stick his or head out while driving.

Released last month, Mario Kart 8 has proven to be a real success for Nintendo, selling 1.2 million copies in its first four days on sale and causing Wii U sales in the UK to rise by a rather ominous 666%.
