Mamoswine, The Melee Defender Gets Added To The Roster In Pokémon Unite

The Ice and Ground-type Pokémon, Mamoswine, is the newest addition to the Pokémon Unite roster this week. The popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, Pokémon Unite, was first released on July 21 on the Nintendo Switch. The game recently came to mobile platforms and it has been receiving patches and new characters frequently. Information on Mamoswine and his moves was posted on the Pokémon website and Pokémon Unite webpage.

The Pokémon will begin each battle as its first evolution, Swinub. Once Swinub reaches level 6 it will evolve into Piloswine and at level 10 it will evolve into Mamoswine. The license to play this Pokémon will cost 8,000 Aeos Coins or 460 Aeos Gems. Mamoswine can choose between the two moves, Icicle Crash or Ice Fang, in order to freeze enemies and to open them up to more attacks. His other move can be either High Horsepower or Earthquake which allows the Pokémon to stun and slow down its enemies.

Mamoswine’s basic attack becomes a boosted attack with every third attack, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon and leaving them frozen for a short time when it hits. In addition, Mamoswine’s basic attacks deal increased damage for a short time to opposing Pokémon it has frozen with one of its moves. Furthermore, due to Mamoswine’s Ability, Thick Fat, every time the Pokémon deals damage, its Defense and Sp. Defense are increased for a short time (up to three times), and when Mamoswine uses Ice Shard, Icicle Crash, or Ice Fang, its next basic attack becomes a boosted attack. If any of those three moves creates a freezing area of effect inside an ally goal zone, it decreases the goal-scoring speed of opposing Pokémon inside that goal zone.

Mamoswine’s Unite attack, Mammoth Mash, is especially powerful as it allows the player to jump to a position, making the player immune to stunning attacks. As Mamoswine stamps the ground, enemy players will be damaged and their movement speed will be slowed down. The move ends with Mamoswine throwing any enemies within range of the attack.

Pokémon Unite is free-to-play but does allow for in-game purchases and a battle pass similar to other free-to-play games like Fortnite. More updates, patches and costumes are coming in the future starting with Sacred Alolan Ninetales releasing today.
