Lucasfilm Games, Ubisoft, & Massive Entertainment Announce New Story-Driven, Open-World Star Wars Game

Lucasfilm Games is continuing its big week. After officially announcing that Lucasfilm Games is the official identity of all gaming titles from Lucasfilm, going back to the name that was used in the ’80s until it was rebranded in LucasArts in 1990. Yesterday, Lucasfilm, Bethesda, and MachineGames announced that they are working together on new Indiana Jones game. Today, Lucasfilm Games, Ubisoft, and Massive Entertainment, developers of The Division franchise, have announced a new story-driven, open-world Star Wars game.

“The vast Star Wars lore is an incredible source of inspiration for our teams,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft. “This is the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm Games, and we are pleased to be working hand-in-hand to build upon the incredible legacy of Lucasfilm to create a game that we know Star Wars fans will love.” Creative Director Julian Gerighty talked a bit about the game and how development is going so far. “Right now, we are in the beginning of our new journey, so we are still working out many of the details. But we can tell you that this will be a story-driven open-world game.”

Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly said “we’re really excited about an opportunity to work with the team at Massive, led by David Polfeldt and the creative director, Julian Gerighty. We’ve spent almost a year now, working to get to know them and what they want to bring to the table. I’m a huge fan of them personally. I think we’re really excited about where that project is going, because they have a unique vision for the story and the game they want to deliver.”

After the announcement of the new Indiana Jones game and the new Star Wars game coming from Massive, more news will be coming this year from Lucasfilm Games. Reilly said “this is just the beginning of what I think is going to be a very exciting year for Lucasfilm Games. We’ve got a lot of stuff we’re ready to start sharing with fans because we’ve been working quietly behind the scenes for a while now, waiting for this moment.”
