Another one of the title that was influenced by the Souldborne style is on track to become another major hit for 2023. Developer Hexworks has announced that their title, Lords of the Fallen, has now sold more than one million copies in just ten days of launching. The title released on October 13, and despite a fairly tepid reception from critics, has gone onto garner a bit of a fan following, which is heavily indicated by the sales number within a small time frame. Lords of the Fallen joins Lies of P, another Souldborne like title, as one of two entries this year to break the one million mark in less than a month’s time.
This is especially impressive considering that the title launched with a plethora of in-game issues. This included save glitches, balance issues, and poor performance, all of which can be a major breaking point for any player, especially in an action RPG with a high difficulty. Regardless, this apparently wasn’t enough to prevent players from enjoying the game overall, and with plenty of hotfixes and patches already implemented, it’s likely that the fanbase is only going to grow exponentially.
For those who don’t know, Lords of the Fallen is essentially a successor to the title of the same name which was released in 2014. It was originally revealed as a fully-fledged sequel, Lords of the Fallen 2, until development was scrapped and the original studio, Deck13 Interactive, would no longer be working on the IP. The publisher, CI Games, commissioned Hexworks to create a new entry, which ended up being a reboot of the first entry and something that the developer took on as a personal challenge. As the year progresses, we can only expect those sales numbers to get even higher.
