Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster Release Date Revealed

The release date for a beloved classic Star Wars game has been revealed. Star Wars: Dark Forces will be coming to soon modern consoles in February 28, 2024.

Initially released in 1995 for the MS-DOS and Macintosh, players take the roll of Kyle Katarn, a mercenary and defector of the Empire, who infiltrates the Empire and uncovers the Dark Trooper Project.

Not only was Star Wars: Dark Forces the first ever Star Wars first person shooter game (FPS), it “raised the bar” for FPS games at the time, offering it’s players a wider range of movement, item selection and interactive environments.

Star Wars: Dark Forces is being revitalized by the video game restoration developer Nightdive Studios through its KEX engine. Players can expect the game to run up to 4K resolution at 120FPS on modern game systems. Other new features include:

  • All fourteen original levels, featuring Star Wars worlds and capital ships
  • Use your ability to jump, duck, and crawl to solve puzzles and defeat enemies
  • A Personal Digital Assistant provides you with in game information such including map, inventory, and mission briefing
  • Engaging first-person ground combat featuring ten weapons and twenty types of enemies
  • Advanced 3D rendering enables updated lighting and atmospheric effects
  • Modern gamepad support adds a new weapon wheel, and rumble
  • Controller Support – vibration and gyro controls
  • A variety of power-ups are made available to the player, including health, shields, weapons and ammunition
  • For combat, the player may use fists, explosive landmines and thermal detonators, as well as blasters and other ranged weapons
  • Includes immersive environmental puzzles and mazes

Star Wars fans can relive this FPS classic when Star Wars: Dark Forces releases on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
