In the eye of the Blizzard, so to speak, we received a hail of information dropped into our laps, and in the face of such awesome devastation you might have missed the cinematic trailer for World of Warcraft’s next expansion, Legion, but you shouldn’t because it is worth watching! Players can expect lot form the new expansion, as Blizzard is pulling an overhaul to bring subscribers back to the game. After the launch of last year’s Lords of Draenor, WoW saw its largest number of de-subs to date: from 10 million paying subscribers to 5.5 million. However, it looks like the developers put their heads together and are attempting to coax us back to Azeroth by kicking it up a notch.
Legion marks the introduction of a 2nd hero class, Demon Hunter (the first being the Deathknight). Demon Hunters offer a fun new way to play the game, and help expand on the lore behind Night and Blood Elves, along with the fate met by the nefarious Illidan after Burning Crusade. Demon Hunters have the unique ability to see through walls, enabling them to scope out objects and enemies lurking beyond. They can also double jump, something totally new to WoW, and have 2 specializations instead of the custom 3 (with the exception of the Druids, which have 4).
(Demon Hunter Class)
Players who pre-order the expansion receive awesome perks, such as an instant character boost, and early access to the Demon Hunter class. We can also look forward to new artifact weapons, a completely reforged Player vs Player system (Blizzard’ attempt to reward casual PvP instead of die-hard, dedication), class specific halls, and a return to the Broken Isles! The level cap will be bumped up to a vicious 110, which gives everyone more breathing room to continue leveling. Rumors are circulating that Blizzard will also be revamping all professions for characters, but nothing is confirmed. Fans can also look forward to our favorite champion of the Undead, Sylvanas Windrunner, and perhaps a filling of gaps in her storyline.
However, we woefully appear to have a long wait for Legion, as a statement from Blizzcon gives us an estimated launch date of September 21st, 2016. In the meantime, we can console ourselves with Starcraft II’s next expansion, Legacy of the Void, out tomorrow, Nov 10th.
