Last month, XBOX announced that its backward compatibility program is making its way to PC. As on now, only four classic original XBOX games: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy, are available. More games will make its way to the platform in the future. A leaked document has revealed that Microsoft will allow developers to bring its XBOX 360 games to XBOX PCs, Project Helix, and handheld devices.

When developers opt in, they will be able to control things like the game’s price and if it’s available on Game Pass. This will be a “gradual” rollut between 2027 and 2028 “across next-gen devices.” The full launch of original XBOX games on PC officially launches in October.
The leaked document also has details on a way for players to get a digital version of a game they own physically. If a player puts an XBOX One or Series game disc into an XBOX One or Series X console with a disc drive, a digital license for that game will be created and is bound to “that disc and the player’s account.” The license will stay will the player across XBOX devices. If the disc changes hands, the license will then transfer to the new person.
A public beta for the disc-to-digital was set for July with general availability set for August, according to the document. Microsoft had orginally planned to test the disc-to-digital program with XBOX insiders in July, but the beta was delayed. It’s unclear whether or not the general availability for the disc-to-digital program will still roll out this month or if that timeline was changed folllowing the delay of the beta.
