Released in 2003, the cult classic Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom was a game created by THQ Nordic based on the popular television cartoon Spongebob Squarepants and was available for various consoles. Set in Bikini Bottom, Spongebob and his friends must defeat the evil Plankton from taking over Bikini Bottom with his army of robots. Players have the ability to swap between Spongebob and Patrick at any time in order to accomplish different tasks and puzzles throughout the game, and some areas may require the use of multiple characters to beat. Areas in the game may also be familiar to players and fans of the show, allowing players to visit locations like Spongebob’s home, The Krusty Krab, Goo Lagoon or a variety of other places. The newest trailer for the game showcases the familiar Goo Lagoon area of the story, a beach filled with dark sludge and evil robot and is just one of the few remastered locations that players will encounter in their play through.
A new mode will also be bringing multiplayer to the game, the newest Horde mode will put two players versus waves of robots, and there will be new characters available for play for the mode. Squidward, Sandy and Mr Krabs have all been announced to be playable in the online, or local, two player horde mode. The game will also include Robot Squidward as a new boss fight, a plan originally scrapped from the original release of the game. The remake for Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom: Re-hydrated will be releasing on June 23 and will playable on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PCs. The game can be pre-ordered through Nintendo’s online store for $29.99, and the website shows off some of the game’s updated graphics in multiple screenshots.
