Kotaku Writer Clarifies Far Cry 5 Comments

The Far Cry series has become a very big hit in recent years, and rumors of a new game are already flying around the internet. These reports indicate that Far Cry 5 could come as soon as September and that the game will be set in Montana.  However, a recent tweet from Kotaku’s news editor Jason Schreier dispels the rumor that this game will be western themed.

In Schreier’s tweet, he wrote, “I have not heard anything about it being a western. Just that it’s set in Montana.” He then included a screenshot of many headlines referring to Far Cry 5 as using a Wild West setting and being a direct competitor to the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. Most of these inaccurate headlines come from lesser known gaming sites, but a few big names showed up as well, including GamingBolt and vg247.com.

To be fair, though, when you hear a video game is going to be set in Montana, you either think Wild West or National Park Walking Simulator.

Also adding to the confusion is the survey Ubisoft sent out couple years ago, asking what kind of different ideas fans would want to see in a Far Cry game. Among the various possible topics were vampires, a Jurassic Park inspired dinosaur game, and the far more grounded in reality Wild West setting.

Of course, with the Far Cry games turning more into an annual tradition, some critics are wondering if Ubisoft should slow down these releases, to prevent them from becoming rushed, buggy disappointments the way Assassin’s Creed turned out.

E3 2017 is only a month away, and it won’t be long until some official assets are released. Until then, gamers are left to speculate as to what exactly this new Far Cry 5 has in store.

I’m going with “National Park ranger hunts down picnic basket stealing bear.”
