The release for Konami’s TurboGrafx-16 Mini was originally set for March 19th. This date is being pushed back indefinitely, after manufacturing and shipping for the revamped console has been stymied by coronavirus concerns. Konami took to Twitter to share the news and explain the situation to fans.
All PC Engine Core Grafx mini products set for release later this month are delayed until further notice. Upon its release, TurboGrafx-16 Mini will join the list of revived retro-consoles like the Nintendo NES Classic Edition and Sega Genesis Mini. The emulator will run games like Ys Book I & II, and the Japanese version of some classic PC Engine titles.
It’s unfortunate that what looks to be a promising product won’t make its way into the hands of fans at a time where most probably need a medium of catharsis. One can’t help but wonder if the release of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will be impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.
This notion is worrisome, but the release for these next-generation consoles are expected sometime in the Fall. It’s plausible to think the epidemic will at least be abated by that point, but gamers are reasonably solicitous about it. When it comes to the TurboGrafx-26 Mini, Konami vows it will take all measures to push out the console “as soon as possible” and will share information as it becomes available.
