Kaisuo, The VR Puzzle Game That Puts You Against Chinese Puzzle Boxes

E3 2018 has an assortment of indie titles for video game fans to try. During our time at E3 this year we’ve gotten our hands on impressions on quite a few titles worth noting already. One such title we were given the chance to jump into is Kaisuo which is developed by USC Games.

Kaisuo is a VR puzzle title that requires “fine motor dexterity” to solve Chinese puzzle boxes that “unlock surreal extraordinary spaces.” When playing the game, the first couple puzzles are simple and seem to just allow you to get a feel for picking things up, putting them down, opening doors, placing key objects where they need to be, and navigating around puzzle spaces.

The controls were very responsive and the objects almost felt as if they were actually in your hand when after you grabbed them. These introductory exercises lead to an elevator and once it reaches the top you were placed inside a clock tower and presented with your first puzzle box; a clock. The box hand to be solved in various stages and each step wasn’t as straight forward as it seemed.

When given a key it would break inside the lock, knobs that when turned moved gears but those gears never did anything, and incomplete fuses that needed just the right connecter to complete the circuit were all factors used in solving one of these boxes. After the puzzle was successfully completed there was a dramatic transition that left players in a serene water surrounded setting. Kaisuo has been nominated for a few awards at E3. There is currently no release date for Kaisuo but only that the game is set to be coming “soon” for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
