Mob Entertainment, the developers the Poppy Playtime franchise, have revealed another installment in the series today. Escape from Playtime is an 1-4 player online co-op, where players embody the smiling critters from the series. The main premise of the game requires players to work together if they want to escape the Playtime Co. factory in one piece.
A key mechanic to the game is that each run will place the players in a random section of the abandoned factory. These are areas seen in the franchise such as the classrooms, warehouses, testing labs, and more. However, some of these familiar environment come with a twist as they have altered layouts.
Throughout the game, a mysterious Voice directs the players to collect parts and resources for a project meant to bring their escape to fruition. As players explore the facility, they will uncover clues and find useful hiding spots to avoid the Playtime Co. creatures lurking the halls.
Escape from Playtime features a proximity chat sure to increase the chaos with a bigger party. Players can explore the depths of the facility and view it through the eyes of the Smiling Critters. They miniature size enables players to crawl, jump, and climb through various nooks and crannies within each layout.
The reveal trailer showcases how vast the facility appears when viewed through a smaller lense. Miss Delight, a secondary protagonist in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3, is seen pursuing the players. Her mechanic works the same as in the other installment as she will move once the player’s have lost sight of her.
No release date has been set, but the developers plan on releasing an early access version via Steam once it is ready. The early access will have an eight character roster for players to choose from and one starting zone. Mob Entertainment plans on adding new zones, enemies, and features based on player feedback.
