Japanese Games To Have A Big Presence At Sony Conference

As E3 is only about a week away, many announcements and teasers have been released in order to get the hype flowing for the biggest week in gaming. Developers are urging fans to prepare for major announcements and surprises that will be unveiled at their respective events. Recently, in an article with Time Magazine President and CEO of Sony Interactive Shawn Layden states that Japanese publishers will has some major announcements coming up at E3 2017.

Layden says that these Japanese companies are migrating from mobile gaming and are coming back to consoles. Using titles such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Nioh, NieR: Automata, Persona 5, and Final Fantasy XV as examples he explains his view on these developers return to the platform.

“That’s super important for us,” he says. “I think a lot of Japanese developers lost their way chasing the mobile games yen, if you will, but they’re coming back to console in a major way. And speaking of, we’ll have some big announcements at E3 in that precise vein.”

Layden also told Time that Sony’s event will serve more like a showcase and less like a press conference. “The crowd will only have to suffer I think in aggregate 90 seconds of me,” he said jokingly. “And in the middle will be all the games.” There has also been talk about the potentiality of a Bloodborne sequel. When Glixel asked Layden about the possible project along with any new developments on what Sucker Punch has been doing he responded “You can ask,” but failed to give any other comments.

Sony’s press conference will take place on Monday, June 12 at 6 p.m. PDT
