Infinity Ward Teases at New Call of Duty Title

Every year, we see another entry into the two-decades old franchise that is Call of Duty. Although many may feel fatigued by it, especially when accounting for the lack of new and original Call of Duty IP’s (the last non-Modern Warfare or Black Ops entry being Vanguard from 2021), the franchise continues to be highly successful and maintain itself as a household name. While Black Ops 7 was met with mixed to average reviews and was the lowest performing Call of Duty game since World at War, it was still the fifth best-selling game in the United States in 2025.

Today, Infinity Ward teased at a new Call of Duty title, with Infinity Ward co-heads Mark Grigsby and Jack O’Hara also saying on the COD POD: Off Duty podcast that they were creating “the definitive Modern Warfare”. What they mean by “definitive” is up to interpretation, but this aligns with the past rumors that Infinity Ward was working on a fourth entry to the rebooted Modern Warfare series. This may be disappointing to those who were hoping for something new and different, but given that Modern Warfare, both old and new, has been the most successful and recognized Call of Duty series to date, it makes sense Activision would want to keep the wheels turning there.

Activision has also previously confirmed that, despite rumors, the next Call of Duty will be not releasing on either PS4 and Xbox One, with them instead focusing on current-gen consoles, and those playing on PC will need high-end gear to run the game properly. This may come as an issue for many considering the price hikes for both consoles and PC components, the latter in particular affected by the DRAM shortage.

It is not certain when Infinity Ward will show off gameplay of the next Call of Duty game, but it may either be on June 7th at the Xbox Games Showcase or June 2nd during the State of Play broadcast for PlayStation, or it might premier instead during the Summer Game Fest on June 5th. Regardless of when it is announced, Call of Duty can likely expect to hear more shortly.
