Indie Cooperative Stealth/Hacking Game Clandestine Makes Its Way to Steam

Danish indie studio Logic Artists proudly announced today that its latest cooperative, stealth and hacking hybrid game Clandestine is now available for purchase in the Steam Store. The company, who has also produced tactical turn-based RPG Expeditions: Conquistador for both PC and for mobile phone, was founded in 2011 by a group of game design students at IT University of Copenhagen who successfully funded their first project through Kickstarter. Clandestine is their latest offering, with a sequel to Conquistador named Expeditions: Viking currently in production.

Set in 1996, Clandestine takes place in the wake of the Soviet Union’s dissolution and places one player in the role of an inexperienced yet ambitious Russian field agent named Katya Kozlova (codenamed “Whisper”), and a second player in the role of her American partner, an intrepid hacker named Martin Symbroski. While the spy player will be offered options like a loadout selection menu, melee takedowns, and cover system while operating in the field, the hacker player will have access to a variety of hacking tools and will even have to combat enemy System Administrators within the hacking system. The two must work harmoniously to infiltrate corporate institutions around the world, where they will uncover dark secrets behind the recent murders of former Cold War operatives. The game can also be played solo, with a single player switching between the roles of spy and hacker to solve the game’s puzzles.

A trailer for Clandestine can be found below.

Logic Artists’ latest project touts a return to the hardcore stealth games of yore, with tough enemies and even tougher puzzles. Enemy AI is relentless and unforgiving, and aims to whet the appetites of veteran stealth gamers who may not always want to confront obstacles head-on. Hacking puzzles and branching dialogue trees, meanwhile, provide player teams with avenues for manipulating the game world and the individuals that inhabit it. The game’s official website (which provides details on how both the spy and the hacker are played and can be found here) states that “your actions won’t go unnoticed – the story will respond to how much evidence you leave in each mission and how many dead bodies you leave in your wake.”

Clandestine’s final release includes 17 game levels, plus extra locations to visit like a headquarters and a safe house. The game also offers two modes of progressing through the story: Campaign Missions, which feature a branching narrative and cooperative social engineering mechanics, and Challenge Maps, which offer replayable, randomized side-missions with minimal narrative context.

Both players will work together to subdue their foes and infiltrate enemy databases. They can even synchronize their takedowns, as shown above.

For the first week of its release, Clandestine can be downloaded from the Steam Store with 20% discount from the original price of 22.99/ $24.99/ £19.99. To learn more about the developer, Logic Artists, visit their wesbite, or click here to view their Twitter.
