Yoshihiro Togashi is a legend in the anime and manga world, most westerners were exposed to his work with the anime adaptation of his extremely popular shonen series YuYu Hakusho, but those same westerners truly fell in love with his work with his later shonen series Hunter x Hunter. As with most anime and manga that reach a certain level of popularity, Hunter x Hunter has received various video game adaptations over the years but this upcoming fighting game, Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact by Eighting and Bushiroad Games is looking to be the talk of the town as its demo nears access at EVO Japan tomorrow on April 27th.
The game looks to be a 2D 3v3 fighting game much in the same vein as Capcom’s Marvel vs Capcom series, and the starting characters we see on the roster, who will be available on the upcoming demo, are the main characters Gon and Killua, Leorio, Isaac Netero, Kurapika, Machi, and fan favorites Hisoka and Uvogin and no doubt many characters will be joining them.
As stated, the game seems to take many cues from previous tag fighters such as the Marvel vs Capcom series, with an emphasis on tagging characters in and out for flashy and long extended combos backed up by assists from your characters that aren’t currently tagged in. Though some online sleuths have discovered that Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact may have a bit more than just a design philosophy from the popular comic crossover series, as users on Twitter have found that the game also seems to have many similar animations to Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 as well as Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
This is only good news, of course. Fighting game fans absolutely adore tag fighters like the Marvel vs Capcom series, and taking inspiration from that series can only mean the game is going to be very fun with a lot of depth (and broken strategies as per tradition). If you’re a big tag fighter fan or a fan of the Hunter x Hunter series look out for some gameplay of Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact by fighting game pros starting tomorrow at EVO Japan. The videos will undoubtedly spread to Youtube as soon as the setups are prepared.
