Hogwarts Legacy Delayed For PS4 and Xbox One Release

Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy have been delayed again as per a statement from the official Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account. Developer Avalanche Software states, “The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms and we need more time to do this. Hogwarts Legacy will launch for PS4 and Xbox One May 5, 2023.” The delay pushes the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version release a month ahead from the prior planned last-gen version release in April. As well the Nintendo Switch version is still currently planned for release on July 25th 2023. It’s unclear how Hogwarts Legacy will fair on last generation consoles, as the game is massive in its world, combat systems and intensive graphics. As for now the game is only available on PS5, Xbox X|S and PC.

In the first two weeks since releasing, Hogwarts Legacy has been a commercial success selling 12 million units and earning $850 million for Warner Bros. Games. As well at launch, Hogwarts Legacy set the record amongst single-player games on Twitch with nearly 1.28 million viewers watching. Despite its recording breaking success the game has faced myriad of controversy and debate with author J.K. Rowling’s public transphobic rhetoric. The game has been boycotted by many gamers and debate surrounds whether buying and playing the game directly contributes to J.K. Rowling. Notably amongst this, streamers on Twitch who choose to play the game have been dealt increasing harassment.

Currently Hogwarts Legacy has an average review score of 83 on Metacritic. The game has been praised for its immersion into the Wizarding World and faithful adaption of the source material. The game however has received negative feedback specifically on PC for performance issues and bugs.
