Hoenn Legendaries and Shiny Spinda Coming to Pokémon Go in July

As June ends, Niantic is gearing up for July with new quests and more Pokémon for Pokémon Go players to take on. Starting Monday, July 1 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET, a new set of Field Research tasks will be available in-game, which will give players the chance to encounter more Legendary and Shiny Pokémon, until 1 PM PT on September 1.

Some familiar faces from the Hoenn region will be making a reappearance in the next two months. Once players achieve a Research Breakthrough—which comes after completing at least one Field Research per day across seven days—they will have the chance to encounter and catch one of four Hoenn Legendaries: Latios, Latias, Kyogre (who is currently available in Raid Battles until June 27), or Groudon.

The next Hoenn Pokémon to be featured is Spinda, the Spot Panda Pokémon. Players can catch Spinda with a new spot pattern after completing some of the new Field Research tasks. Lucky players may even encounter a Shiny Spinda. New Field Research tasks are acquired through visiting Poké Stops and spinning the Photo Disc for items.

Lastly, Deoxys has been available in EX Raids since June 23. Though Deoxys has appeared in EX Raids in the past, this is the first time players can encounter it in its Speed Forme. EX Raids differ from regular Raid Battles in that access is exclusive; players can only participate in EX Raids after receiving an EX Raid Pass, which can only be obtained by winning a Raid Battle at a “qualifying Gym.” Players can check if a specific Gym offers EX Raid Passes by looking at the Gym in question’s details. Once they receive an EX Raid Pass, it will have the date and time that the player can challenge Deoxys in its Speed Forme.

For any players excited to get their hands on one of the Hoenn Legendaries, Kyogre is currently still available in Raid Battles until June 27, as stated above. Though not a Hoenn Legendary, Raikou will also be returning to Raid Battles on Saturday, June 29, from 4 to 7 PM local time.
