Former Call of Duty & God of War Devs Now Working On Marvel’s Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers was initially announced back in 2017. Since then, many were curious about the game but developers Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics were extremely tight lipped about the project. It wasn’t until this year’s E3 that we finally got our first real look at the project in all of its entirety. Along with the reveal, we got the confirmation of cooperative gameplay, post launch content that will be free of charge to players, as well as the slated release date for the game.

It seems Square Enix has been scouring for top tier developers in order to help them create the game. It has already been confirmed that EA developer Stephen Barry is the director for the title and veteran Naughty Dog director Shaun Escayg will act as the game’s creative director. Now, we have learned of a couple more notable developers that are added to the development team. Crystal Dynamics studio head Scott Amos stated in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that they had also hired Dave Fifield to work on multiplayer and Vince Napoli for combat design.

Fifield has previously done work with the Call of Duty series at Activision, and has also contributed to the Halo franchise. While Napoli recently did work on God of War as the lead systems designer where he was in charge of developing Kratos’s various weapons and combat.

We cherry-picked the best of the best and said: ‘Let’s put this together in a new way for something bigger than we’ve ever done.

Marvel’s Avengers is set to release on May 15, 2020 and currently has a total of five studios working on it. These developers include Crystal Dynamics in Redwood Shores, California, it’s sister company Crystal Northwest in Bellevue, Washington. Nixxes Software in the Netherlands, Eidos Montreal, as well as a “tech group” from Square Enix Japan.
