One of the gaming community’s favorite developers/internet tricksters Hideo Kojima is once again teasing something. At the Tokyo Game Show 2022, Kojima Productions has a booth which contains a QR code that leads to posted a cryptic teaser on their website. The teaser is wholly comprised as an image of a covered face that belongs to what appears to be a women with the words “Who am I?” imposed over it in white. This alone has lead long time fans of the developer to begin theorizing their own hypothesis as to what the game is about, all with one obscure image.

Thanks to some sleuthing by people on Twitter, it has been discovered that the person being covered in the image is potentially actress Elle Fanning, which only makes the tease even more intriguing. As you can see in the tweet above, Twitter user José Mellinas has completed a deduction that the image being used in the teaser is from a picture taken of the actress. Despite the Tokyo Game Show still ongoing, Kojima Productions isn’t planning on showing anything at the event.
This will only cause the internet, as well as the video game community to speculate over a simple photo with three words, and that’s exactly what Kojima wants. Kojima employed these tactics during and after the lead-up to the release date of Death Stranding, something that had the video game world captivated for what felt like an eternity. When it did release, the success was immediate, making it one of the most critically acclaimed titles that year.
It’s also important to note that it’s been a little more than a year since we last heard anything about a potential sequel to Death Stranding when Norman Reedus commented by saying it’s “in negotiations.” This could be the first real tease for that sequel, although knowing how Kojima operates, it’s going to be a long time before we get any real concrete reveals. Hope everyone enjoys cryptic images and reels that make no sense because that’s what we’re more than likely going to get for the foreseeable future.
