Heroes of the Storm Matchmaking Leads to an Actual Marriage

Online dating has been a fairly recent phenomenon. Millions of people have accounts on numerous dating sites and swiping right on Tinder, myself included. A newly married couple went the online route, albeit in a different platform. Two people met while playing Heroes of the Storm online. It is unknown what their actual names are, but their usernames are SadJetsFan and Venus1812, husband and wife respectfully, so throughout this article they will be referred to as their usernames. (It would be hilarious if SadJetsFan and Venus1812 were the names on the wedding certificate).

“Against all odds, two people from different countries and cultures were able to find each other and create a love story for the ages,” SadJetsFan wrote on an official subreddit for Heroes of the Storm. SadJetsFan and Venus1812 had their fateful encounter during a game in late February 2016. They then added each other as friends and the relationship blossomed from there.

“I think you have to have played HotS or a similar game to understand the odds of the two of us being matched in a game, adding to friends list, and then being online together long enough to develop a relationship,” SadJetsFan said in an email. In all, SadJetsFan and Venus1812 have played together in over 760 total matches.

Venus1812 is originally from Honduras where she worked for the United Nations World Food Program; leaving Honduras to get married and live a life in the United States meant that she had to leave that part of her life behind.

“I had a lot to give up…a lot of good friends and of course my family, traditions customs etc.,” Venus1812 said.

They were originally going to just cosplay the wedding because it was just supposed to be between SadJetsFan and Venus1812 and one other person, but more people decided that they wanted to attend.

“Originally we were gonna do cosplay cause it was just gonna be the 2 of us and his best friend. I actually got the lunar Jaina dress,” Venus1812 said. “But suddenly our family wanted to be part of it. And we thought they were gonna think it was a joke if we wore the costumes or that they weren’t prepared for it. Turns out everyone was like ‘why didn’t you guys [wear] the costumes during the wedding dinner?”

I’ve been single for almost a year; maybe I should hit up the video game world for my partner instead of swiping right.

Bryan Ingram: My name is Bryan. I just graduated from High Point University with a degree in Journalism. I'm 25 and writing has always been a part of my life. I'm a big Pokémon fan, so I'l spend a lot of my time playing that. Other than that, I love sports, particularly the Charlotte Hornets and the Carolina Panthers. No matter how bad the team is, I will always rep them.
