After being rumored, and then leaked by toy manufacturer of all things, 343 Industries has decided to let the cat out of the bag and officially announced that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode will indeed be free-to-play. In addition to this startling revelation, the company also revealed that the multiplayer will be able to support up to 120 frames per second on the upcoming Xbox Series X. 343 says that there will be more information to come, but for the time being, the decision to make Halo’s legendary mode available to everyone has definitely caused chain reaction in the video game community.
While this announcement is exciting, to say the least, it still begs some questions just as to how this will work. Judging by the nature of this reveal, it sounds like 343 is truly making this accessible to everyone, regardless of whether you have Xbox Game Pass/Ultimate or not, but this still needs to be confirmed. In addition, since the game is also coming out on Steam for PC, will it be offered in the same way, where you can just download the multiplayer and not the entire game? 343 will more than likely need to address these questions long before it launches this holiday, and hopefully we find out more soon.
Easily one of the most hyped and anticipated games of the Xbox console line, let alone 2020, Halo Infinite was finally shown to the world just last week during the Xbox Games Showcase. This portion of the game that we saw, the campaign, will not be free-to-play and will indeed cost money. On top of that, the company also mentioned that the campaign will be locked at 60 frames per second, similar to how Epic Games locked the framer per second on the campaign of Gears of War Ultimate Edition for the Xbox One.
Obviously, we’re due for some more information, but the mere thought of playing Halo multiplayer without having to even put down a cent is something that we’re excited about. Halo Infinite will launch later this year during the 2020 holidays for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
