Halo Infinite Could Have Multiple Campaigns

Halo Infinite‘s technical testing ground is officially open so long as you managed to get an invitation, and fans are already combing through all the content available to see if 343 left any tidbits or hints as to what players can expect from the full game when it releases. One of the last aspects of Infinite that’s still shrouded in mystery is the campaign– or at least it was.

Now that players have their hands on even just a chunk of the game, it was only a matter of time until data miners and extra-observant fans alike discovered something. That something has come in the form of just a single letter on 343’s new insider version of Halo Waypoint.

If you’re enjoying the mystery and would prefer to be surprised when Halo Infinite launches, it might be smart to avoid social media until the game’s release. Files in the tech preview accessible by data miners apparently included some major details for the game’s campaign, and many developers at 343 are asking fans on Twitter to stay vigilant and try to avoid spoilers as best they can. So if you don’t want to be spoiled, either stay away from the socials or start muting words related to the game.

Waypoint has been 343 Industries’ official hub for some time now, and the lucky gamers who got into this weekend’s tech preview were able to check out the updated version to coincide with Halo Infinite’s release. The updated version has received a total makeover and a shiny new Halo Infinite tab, where keen-eyed players noticed that this tab mentioned “campaigns.” With an “s.”

Obviously, if this were the only hint pointing players to this conclusion, this theory wouldn’t hold much water, but there’s more evidence pointing towards more than one campaign in the new Halo. In a previous blogpost, 343 showed off Master Chief’s iconic helmet as a reward for “completing chief’s story” in the “campaign pass.” Although higher-ups with 343 assured fans this was just placeholder text, speculation was already running rampant, especially since hearing from former Halo Infinite lead Chris Lee, who was quoted saying:

We want Infinite to grow over time, versus going to those numbered titles and having all that segmentation that we had before. It’s really about creating Halo Infinite as the start of the next 10 years for Halo and then building that as we go with our fans and community.

This, along with confirmation from 343 that Infinite will not be getting traditional sequels and will instead receive multiple updates to its’ story content, makes a fairly convincing case that Halo developers might end up including more than one campaign in their newest game.

After a bit of a rocky launch, the tech preview is now firing on all cylinders and should make fans of Halo or the FPS genre as a whole very excited. Halo Infinite (at time of writing) will release in 2021 on Xbox One, Series X|S, and PC.
