Guild Wars 2 Finally Arrives on Steam This November, Third Expansion Coming Out Next Year

ArenaNet made a rather surprising announcement in regards to their online MMORPG Guild Wars 2. Eight years after it initially launched without the assistance of any proper digital platform launcher, the company has announced that the game will now be officially made available through Steam later this year in November. In addition, the two major expansions, The Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire, will also be offered on the platform, as well as the in-game event The Icebrood Saga which is lot of extra content for newcomers. On top of all that, ArenaNet also confirmed that the long-awaited third expansion, End of Dragons, will be coming sometime in 2021.

While this is very exciting news, it does come with some caveats. First and unfortunately, current Guild Wars 2 accounts cannot be transferred to Steam, and those who create on Steam cannot convert their account to the main launcher. Secondly, while you cannot transfer between accounts, the servers and worlds will all be shared between the two launchers, ensuring that if you’re brand new to the game and want to play with longtime veterans, you’ll be able to do so.

As we already mentioned earlier, Guild War 2’s much anticipated third expansion End of Dragons was also teased. The very brief trailer shows us that we’ll be heading to an isolated island named Cantha, which has apparently been that way roughly 200 years. Alongside some cryptic narration, we’re shown pieces and bits of what could have possibly happened to the land, and how we’re going to fix it. Hopefully, we’ll find out more about End of Dragons, but for the time being it remains a bit of a mystery. The expansion is scheduled to launch sometime in 2021.

As we progress through the remaining months of 2020, we’re more than likely to hear more about an official release date for the title on Steam, and since we’re nearing the end of August already, we expect to hear this information much sooner than later. Guild Wars 2 will be available for Steam this November. You can check out the official Steam page here.
