Gorgeous Indie Game GRIS to Release on Nintendo Switch and PC December 13

Roughly two months ago, independent gaming producers Devolver Digital announced that they were going to release a game called GRIS. The trailer had shown off the gorgeous traditional and water-colour inspired visuals, as well as the beautiful score that accompanies every inch of colour perfectly. Narrative-based games came in a wave around 2015 and 2016 with games such as Journey and Firewatch that challenged players’ introspection and thought while they enjoyed beautiful scenery and soundtracks, where problems weren’t solved with fighting.

GRIS follows suit with this trend, creating a world that’s free of any type of danger and death. The story follows a young woman, named Gris, who is dealing with loss and trauma. Players must go through the 2D style puzzle platformer to help Gris grow emotionally. Puzzles and optional skill-based challenges will be revealed the further players go into Gris’s story. New paths and new abilities will emerge as well the more she grows. Parts of the puzzles will rely on auditory pieces as well, adding into the score and wonder of this game.

Devolver Digital released a new trailer today to show off more of the enhancements that our lead Gris can obtain through the trials and puzzles, as well as some foes that she will have to run from or outsmart:

The game does have a similar look as thatgamecompany’s Journey did back in 2012, with monochromatic colour schemes and even a protagonist who relies on their cloak to move around.  When the trailer and game play demo were released, Devolver Digital announced that the game would be coming out around December, in time for the holidays. With the recent announcement, the game has been confirmed to be released for the Nintendo Switch on December 13 and it will be available in the Nintendo eShop.  For PC, it will be released on Steam the same date. However, pre-orders are not up for this game as of yet.
