Multinational game publisher Bandai Namco has announced the opening of pre-orders for their upcoming space combat game GoD Factory: Wingmen. A product of Canadian developer Nine Dots Studio, GoD Factory is a multiplayer-only game which pits teams of four players piloting customized spaceships in head-to-head battles.
GoD Factory: Wingmen offers a selection of four species for players to choose from when starting out in the game. Depending on which species they choose to fight for, players will then gain access to a selection of unique as well as generic ship components from which they must assemble their spacecraft. Each part changes the appearance and statistics of the player’s ship, with some pieces also providing active abilities to compliment the basic “point and shoot” gameplay.
Once players have created their fleets, they will be able to choose two of their ships to take into a given battle which can be swapped between by the owner or shared with teammates in order to provide for a greater diversity of tactics on the battlefield. The primary objective of a game of GoD Factory is to destroy the enemy team’s carrier, a massive spaceship that can only be destroyed through coordinated attacks on several vulnerable points across its hull, the destruction of which will slowly cripple the carrier until it finally succumbs to the onslaught. If a player-controlled fighter is destroyed, it becomes unusable for the remainder of the match. Players who run out of functional ships will be relegated to piloting drones, weaker spacecraft which lack the special abilities of customized fighters. Once a carrier has been completely destroyed, the match ends and both teams receive new parts, which can be traded with other players of different species, to further customize their spacecraft.
GoD Factory: Wingmen is currently available for pre-order on Steam at cost of $20. The pre-order package includes a number of additional bonuses such as a second copy of the game to gift to a friend, a copy of the game’s soundtrack, an artbook, and special metallic skins for the player’s spacecraft. GoD Factory: Wingmen is slated to officially launch on August 29, 2014. Nine Dots Studio has already announced plans to release a standalone single-player game set in the GoD Factory universe which will utilize Wingmen’s basic mechanics in a narrative campaign mode.
