Ghost Recon: Wildlands Gets New “Helicopter Update”; PvP Open Beta Coming Soon

Two new announcements came out for Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands today; the new “Helicopter Update” goes live in-game today, and new information was revealed on the game’s upcoming PvP mode, Ghost War.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands Title Update 6, referred to as Helicopter Update by Ubisoft, hit all platforms this morning, bringing major changes to helicopter controls and handling and making the experience of piloting one both more authentic and more intuitive to control.  With the new settings, players will be able to utilize both triggers and both sticks on the controller to control the vehicle’s pitch, rotation, altitude, and speed with much more precision.

The update will also give different types of helicopters different feels; smaller options will be faster and more mobile, while larger choppers will have a more slow and steady feel.  Note that while these new controls will be the default setting going forward, there will still be an option for players who preferred the original controls to deactivate the default and revert to the previous settings.  The update also includes a small number of additional bug fixes and changes to the game’s HUD and UI, which you can read in the full patch notes.

First teased back in March of this year as part of the Ghost Recon: Wildlands post-launch content plan, the game’s PvP mode is finally coming bit more into focus.  The mode, called Ghost War, will be a 4v4 tactical deathmatch fought in open-environment maps within the game’s setting of Bolivia.  Players will be able to choose from a roster of specialized classes, including Scout, Sniper, Tank, and more, each with their own specific skills to contribute to a team’s overall composition.

The game mode will strive to capture the same elements of stealth and strategy from the core PvE gameplay by adding new specialized features and systems, such as a “suppression” system that affects your vision while under heavy fire.  Ghost War will come to Ghost Recon: Wildlands in fall this year as part of a free update, but will also be available for testing before then in an open beta, which is planned to come later this summer.
