Genshin Impact Coming to PlayStation 5 This Spring

Early today, Genshin Impact developer, miHoYo, released trailer confirming that the popular gacha game is coming to the PlayStation 5. Players were technically already able to play it on the PlayStation 5 due to the backward compatibility feature with the PlayStation 4, but this new version, which is coming this spring, will take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s hardware.

In the upcoming PlayStation 5 version of Genshin Impact, players will be able to enjoy 4k resolution with enhanced textures as well as shorter loading times. The announcement tweet also mentioned that DualSense support will be used but did not specify any further details. And for any players who have made any progress playing on the PlayStation 4, they do not have to worry as they will be able to continue their progress in the upcoming PlayStation 5 version. However, there is still no cross-platform progression between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and any of the other platforms; notably PC, iOS, and Android.

Genshin Impact is currently available for free on PC, iOS, Android, and PlayStation 4. While there is not an exact date set for the PlayStation 5 release, the PlayStation tweet mentioned that it would be coming sometime this Spring. Genshin Impact has been out for less than a year but it has already become an immensely popular game that has generated over billion dollars through in-game player purchases solely on mobile devices. Right now, it is in the middle of its 1.4 version update with the Windblume Festival and Venti’s banner, Ballad in Goblets, wrapping up. Still to come, is a new four-star Cryo polearm character, Rosaria, which is appearing in Childe’s banner as well as some smaller events like Contenting Tides where players can compete in challenges in order to earn Primogems as well as other items.
