Gearbox Officially Confirms New Borderlands Game

Earlier in the month, Gearbox hinted big announcements at PAX South related to their popular Borderlands franchise, and sure enough, they’ve revealed that a new Borderlands is in the works, and they’re looking to hire.

This new Borderlands game was dubbed the “big one” by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford; a pretty good indication that it will be Borderlands 3.

The company also put out a call for game designers looking to work on the game, and the jobs page on its website is advertising positions such as 3D Artist, UI Designer, Writer, and Engine Programmer. “We want to hear from passionate and talented people to help us with next Borderlands game,” tweeted Pitchford.

In the meantime, Gearbox are busy working on their most current endeavor, the MOBA-style shooter Battleborn, which is due out sometime this year.

The studio also announced the third DLC pack for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel at the PAX South Panel. This new bit of content adds a playable character, Lady Aurelia the Baroness, the sister of Sir Hammerlock who appears to be modeled after a Victorian era huntress.

The press release from Gearbox describes her as such:

Aurelia is the heir of the Hammerlock family fortune, but when she’s not riding her hoverbike through the endless hallways of her orbital turbomansion, she’s out hunting the latest and greatest game in the galaxy. If these expeditions should put her in conflict with her younger brother Alistair – aka Sir Hammerlock – all the better. The only thing more fun than shooting a rare animal Alistair intended to study is the look of abject horror and surprise on his face once Aurelia wears its carcass like a jaunty scarf.

Aurelia’s skill tree allows her to add ice damage to her weapons, gain bonus experience points from teammate kills, and snipe enemies from afar.

This DLC pack will be arriving on 28 January, and will be included with the Season Pass while being priced individually at $9.99. There’s still one final piece of DLC on the way, though, and that one will feature a campaign set inside the mind of Claptrap.
