League of Legends has seen some exciting announcements queued up on the Rift during the past week.  Most notably the 2015 season officially kicked off on January 22, ushering in a clean slate for ranked placement and an all-new esports journey that will culminate with the fifth iteration of Worlds, the championship finals.

LCS, or the League of Legends Championship Series, is underway and esports fans are anticipating an exhilarating season of battle between returning veteran teams like Cloud 9, new rosters like Fnatic, and first-time contenders from international regions.  Riot Games also announced that the 2015 World Championship will be a multi-city, multi-country event hosted in Europe this October. Exact details are forthcoming pending the confirmation of venues.

But whether you enjoy casual games with friends, religiously follow the esports scene, or are looking to level up your game, Riot seems to be expanding its base of selections for friendly strife between LoL players.  Among the excitement of the new season, a couple alternative arenas of competition have been introduced – Fantasy LCS and the 2015 NACC.  As you may have guessed, Fantasy LCS is like Fantasy Football; you and your friends build your dream team of LCS players and hope they don’t let you down on the Fields of Justice – who doesn’t want to have pointless bragging rights to hold over your friends’ heads?  The 2015 North American Collegiate Championship, on the other hand, offers students the chance to team up, represent their school and compete in a tournament bracket for $360,000 in scholarships – now that sounds more like it!
