Developer Archetype Entertainment has revealed a brand-new trailer for its upcoming sci-fi title, EXODUS, during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, officially announcing the game’s release date. The team debuted a cinematic look at the game’s high-stakes narrative and complex character dynamics.
The newly released footage centers heavily on the transactional and sometimes strained relationship between the human characters and a companion known as Salt. Salt is an Awakened octopus turned mercenary and bounty hunter. In the world of EXODUS, Awakened are hyper-intelligent, bio-engineered animals that live, speak, and pilot heavy machinery alongside human society. Salt operates inside a specialized combat mech, bringing long-range sniper fire, rapid evasive mobility, and ink-like smokescreens to the battlefield.
The trailer opens in the heat of movement, with the team establishing a perimeter before delving into Salt’s motivations. “I hunt, you pay. This is agreed,” Salt states, cementing a business-first alliance. However, deeper emotional undercurrents quickly surface. Amidst intense accusations of putting the world in danger for selfish reasons, the footage highlights a sense of longing. Salt is reminded of how long they have been away from their planet and people, prompting a tragic admission that they miss “ocean safety” and home.
Overall, the trailer succeeds in teasing viewers with its impressive narrative complexity.
EXODUS launches on April 7, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with pre-orders currently live.
