Coming ten full years after the original game’s release, Pony Island 2: Panda Circus was introduced to viewers in the back half of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The original game, presenting itself as a harmless game about ponies, shocked players with its suspenseful story and focus on escaping a nightmarish arcade machine. The second game, developed by the team that made Inscription, makes no illusion that the game will expand on the themes of the original, claiming at the end of the game’s Steam page that, “This is not a game about ponies.”
The trailer places the main character in an ancient world, complete with natural views and a mysterious temple. The glimpses at the temple ruins grow darker and darker as glitchy falling begins to interrupt the visuals. Eventually, the main character finds themself face-to-face with an arcade machine that has them exploring a similarly ancient world this time in the form of an old-school pixel game. Various mechanics are shown off in this section, including horse riding where players must consider the kinds of terrain they are travelling on and combat against multiple opponents using a bow and arrow. The game also seems to switch multiple times, presenting different views and scenes every time the machine is started.
The second half of the trailer introduces the talent that will be coming with the game, including Sungwon Cho, Arian Moayed, Caitlin Reilly, and Kevin Saxby. All of them are dressed in costumes that one might find in the world within the game, leaving their roles in the story unknown. The final shots of the trailer raise the stakes by revealing both a flying monster and causing the machine to spin violently into the air.
Pony Island 2: Panda Circus has much to live up to, given the popularity of the games that preceded it. It is set to release on April 27th, 2027.
