Game Freak Shows Off a Town in The Galar Region

Just this morning, Game Freak released a video explaining why they couldn’t make it to Gamescom, as well as debuting several new aesthetic features they added to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. In the video, Shigeru Ohmori explained that due to the fact that the company is placing all of their time into devoloping the Pokémon games, they were unable to make it to Gamescom this year.

Ohmori then showed off one of the towns that we as players will be passing through in the game. The town appears to use a lot of wood and red brick as a motif, making the player feel as though they are in a cozy village in the English countryside. He gave a proper introduction to the professor of this region, Professor Magnolia, who’s research focuses on the fascinating new feature that was introduced to players in trailers earlier this year, Dynamaxing. In which a player’s Pokémon can change size with the help of an item known as a Dynamax Crystal. It is currently unknown if she will also research the other method of size changing, Gigantamaxing.

Ohmori also showed off  another method of travel that players can use to travel around the Galar Region besides the flying Corviknight Taxi, the railway. This is a staple of travel in the British Isles and is just another element that really gives the game that feeling that the player is really in the United Kingdom.

He then showed the players the new motif for the Pokémon Center. The Pokémon Center doesn’t appear to have a white and red coloration, instead it has a pure red brick design, with a shopping bag icon that seems to imply that, just like in most games since the Generation V ones, the Pokémon Center and the Poké Mart will be located in one building, however, this is currently unconfirmed. After introducing players to the new design for Pokémon Centers, Ohmori shows players the Boutique. The boutique will allow players to purchase both fresh goods and clothing so players can stylize their character to look exactly how they want.

From the trailer that Ohmori showed, the game appears to be shaping up nicely for its November 15 release on the Nintendo Switch.
