Staying afloat in this Battle-Royale-filled gaming landscape requires a semi-constant stream of new content. Whether it be new skins, character reworks, or game modes, every game (especially a free-to-play title) needs to give players an incentive to log in. That’s why Blizzard has decided to have players don their wrestling masks and enter the ring in Heroes of the Storm’s latest in-game event, Nexomania. Per their latest marketing email:
Welcome to NEXOMANIA, the most epic no-holds-barred throwdown the Nexus has ever seen! [From May 22] through June 11 , you can step into the cage, prove your prowess with a new in-game quest, unlock fierce new cosmetics, and hear your matches casted by El Guapo, the new lucha announcer.
Initially announced on May 14, Nexomania went live yesterday with Heroes of the Storm‘s latest patch. The new content includes event-themed skins for Lunara, Sonya, Garrosh, Diablo, E.T.C. and Kharazim, mounts (including this adorable little dog), and of course, portraits and sprays.
As with any Blizzard event, the loot chests you earn through hero progression, official game modes, and gems are now Nexomania-themed chests that give a higher chance of earning event-themed items. It should also be noted that last year’s summer event cosmetics (Sun’s Out Gun’s Out) will again have a chance of being unlocked during Nexomania.
As an interesting nod to the event’s spirit of competitiveness, Nexomania also gives players a quest line that’ll split the community in two:
Lunara and Sonya are scheduled for an epic grudge match, and the whole Nexus is getting in on the action.
Players choose a side in this Quest and earn a different set of seasonal rewards depending on their decision. Choose carefully—once you choose a side, the other questline will become inaccessible. (Don’t worry—rewards from both questlines will be available in Loot Chests during next year’s summer event.)
Whichever side you choose, this year will garner you unique portraits and sprays based off team La Pantera Sonya or team La Parca Lunara. Ultimately, completing all objectives for either side will reward players with the previously mentioned in-game El Guapo announcer.
Heroes of the Storm is free to play right now on Mac and PC. Nexomania runs until June 11, and you can check out the live streaming event “Brawl with the Blues” on Twitch right now until 2pm!
