Fortnite’s Rift Tour Takes Players On Wild Ride Through Ariana Grande’s Imagination

Last year’s Travis Scott Fortnite concert was big, and its effects rippled through all corners of pop culture. Everyone saw gigantic Scott stomping around the map with Sicko Mode playing. However, it has been over a year since that concert occurred on April 26, 2020, and the Fortnite team was eager to show growth with a new concert. The Rift Tour, featuring Ariana Grande, debuted today, August 6, and continues until August 8, with 5 shows overall.

And boy, was it a show. The player spends approximately 12 minutes running through different, colorful landscapes, following Grande as she sings some of her biggest hits, including 7 Rings and Positions. There’s pink bubbles rising from the ocean, a crumbling, glittering white palace-like staircase, giant Grande standing on top of the earth from the perspective of space, and of course a minigame where the player shoots large creatures from an airplane. This event includes cosmetics (some of which feature her pet pig!) that can be worn during both regular gameplay and the concert, giving players mini wings that match Grande’s supersized ones. This concert encapsulates what Fortnite is all about: unmitigated, bubbly fun.

A full video of the show was posted by IGN and is available for viewing here. Fortnite has already announced plans for a Lady Gaga concert later this year, so fans have even more creative musical content to look forward to. Grande has been busy with her new fragrance, God is a Woman, and her feature on NBC’s The Voice, but on her Twitter, she has been vocally promoting the Rift Tour. Hopefully, the Rift Tour will expand to include more artists and their visions of interactive concerts in the future.
