Fans recently received a new trailer about Sonic Colors: Ultimate from developer Blind Squirrel Entertainment on August 5, and it focuses solely on the Wisps, as these creatures are a very special character to Sonic. Wisps are a group of alien species from Planet Wisp who are enslaved by Eggman, these little creatures may be diminutive, but they are very powerful, much so that an entire trailer has been dedicated to highlighting the powers and abilities that will be given to the Wisps during the game. But be wary, Wisps will act as both a plot device and an ability.
The Wisps will help you “explore the galaxy and reach new heights” as each one is equipped with unique abilities. You are granted the tough job of having to choose which Wisp you want to pick up throughout the level. As you add a Wisp to your team, you will gain that Wisps’ abilities for a short amount of time. Some Wisps can be of certain advantage to you during different levels as their specificity in powers will lead to great reward when tasks require certain skill sets that they possess. They’re also pretty good at finding secrets that you may find helpful along your journey.
Here is a summary of each Wisp and its abilities:
- White Wisp: Fill your boost gauge, accelerate into super speed, destroy obstacles, and enemies in your path.
- Cyan Wisp: Turns Sonic into a cyan laser, lightning speed, and the ability to zap away enemies from your path.
- Jade Wisp: Turns Sonic into a ‘Jade Wisp,’ phases through solid objects, and has the ability to fly.
- Pink Wisp: Turns Sonic into a pink spike that rolls up walls and ceilings.
- Green Wisp: Turns Sonic into a green hover that reaches high places and has the ability to float.
- Orange Wisp: Turns Sonic into an orange rocket that can blast into the air.
- Blue Wisp – Switches blue rings and blue blocks to open new routes and turns Sonic into a blue cube that helps him stomp down enemies.
- Yellow Wisp – Transforms Sonic into a yellow drill that has the ability to dig through the ground or torpedo through the water.
- Purple Wisp – Transforms Sonic into a hungry purple frenzy, eating anything and everything in his path.
Sega’s Sonic Colors: Ultimate, the remastered version, is set to launch on September 7 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC (via the Epic Games Store), and Nintendo Switch. Will you be checking it out?
