Fortnite Creators, Epic Games, Receive F Grade from Better Business Bureau

While Fortnite is at the height of its popularity, there are undoubtedly a handful of people out there that do not like the game, including the Better Business Bureau. While it’s not actually the game they have an issue with, the company that makes it, Epic Games, recently received an F grade from the BBB. The Better Business Bureau recently put out a blog post detailing why they gave the company such a low score.

The main reason cited for such a low score is a slew of unanswered BBB complaints against Epic submitted by users of the site. According to the post, the company has received a total of 279 complaints on file, with 271 coming within the last year. The post continues to claim that of the numerous claims submitted, Epic has responded to just two. It seems as though most of the “complaints submitted to BBB against Epic Games deal with customer service and refund or exchange issues,” according to the post, as well as a stint of fraudulent charges against Fortnite players back in early 2018.

Some people may take the word of the Better Business Bureau as gospel, but it’s important to remember that the BBB is acting as the middleman between the consumer and Epic Games, and the company famous for the ratings of countless businesses is not without criticism itself. The BBB has been accused in the past of fluffing or downgrading ratings of businesses based on their standing with the company.

There are a number of reasons why Epic could have gotten such a low grade; the BBB could be completely unbiased, with the gaming community’s best interest at heart, and have found that Epic consistently failed to take care of their unhappy customers within an internal customer service department. It’s also possible that the answer given to those customers by Epic did not please them and they tried to go over the gaming company’s head to the BBB. A representative spoke to Kotaku about the rating recently, stating that “Epic Games is not affiliated with the Better Business Bureau and has redirected all player submitted complaints from the BBB to our Player Support staff.” From the looks of it, Epic is trying to handle issues internally, effectively ignoring the BBB rating. Time will tell what effect, if any, the F grade will have on Epic Games.
