Tropico 6 PC Release Delayed

Kalypso Media has delayed the PC release for island management simulator Tropico 6 from its release sometime this month to late March. Those who have been following Tropico 6 will know that this isn’t the first time that it has been delayed, as it was originally set for a release sometime last year. It was originally delayed with a release window looking at sometime in January of 2019 with no specific date given. Then the most recent update this past Tuesday, 8 days into the month of January itself, finalized the release date.

Luckily, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners can breathe a sigh of relief as the console release for Tropico 6 is still due for a release at some point this summer, so that has not been delayed in any way. In response to all this, Simon Hellwig, owner and co-founder of Kalypso Media, released an open letter to the fans of Tropico about the delay.

Over the holidays, I have played Tropico 6 for many hours and really liked what I saw. But, in my humble opinion, it is not enough to like a game – I want to love it! And Tropico 6 is good, but not very good, or outstanding. Yet.

Hellwig states in the letter his thoughts on the quality of the game, more specifically the reasoning behind the delays. It seems as if he and beta testers were not completely satisfied with the current level of polish. The next few months are planned to be used to improve Tropico 6, as Hellwig says “we think we can make the game better by adding some more icing on the Tropican cake”. There is compensation for those who pre-ordered on a digital platform such as Steam before 10am (PST) January 10, 2019, as the first DLC will be free as a “loyalty bonus” for being patient. The DLC is set to release in Q2 2019 and hopefully isn’t delayed like the rest of the game.

Tropico 6 releases worldwide on March 29 for PC.
