Fortnite Announces Chapter 4 Season 2 Update

Fortnite is getting a huge new update starting today with Chapter 4 Season 2, nicknamed “MEGA”. Fortnite had been teasing the “mega” themed update in social media posts in the past week and today has revealed the new content coming. The mega title is apropos for sure as the game introduces new biomes, Steamy Springs, Kenjutsu Crossing, Drift Ridge and Mega City. Featured most in a trailer for the update was Mega City, a cyberpunk themed cityscape with neon signs, futuristic towers, and rain-slicked streets. As well players can now grind on rails to either get out of a sticky situation fast or just look cool zipping through the city. There’s also a two-person bike and a four-person sports car which can drift.

Of course with the new update comes a new battle pass of skins and items. The skins theme heavily around the cyberpunk/ anime update, including Renzo the Destroyer who has neon blue mohawk, Imani outfitted in 80s streetwear, Thunder a lizard with fresh style, Highwire who’s hood features pointy bunny ears, and many more coming to the battle pass. There’s also Eren Yeager from Attack On Titan coming to the update. Fortnite has added anime skins for awhile now, most recently with the additions of My Hero Academia and Dragon Ball.

The new update also adds new weapons and classic ones brought back. The new weapons include a high-powered Kinetic Blade which Fortnite states, “Acquire one of these katanas and perform the artful Knockback Slash. Not holding back? Show no mercy and perform the devastating Dash Attack. The Dash Attack has three charges that enter a cooldown upon use.” Some classic weapons from prior Fortnite updates include the heavy sniper rifle, Dragons Breath Sniper, combat shotgun and cobra DMR. There’s also seven new Reality Augments such as Dumpster Diving, Treasure Hunter and Munitions Slide to name a few.

Fornite has seen some incredible updates, notably late last year with the graphics overhaul to Unreal Engine 5.1 The game now feels like one eye-watering gorgeous tech demo for next-gen graphics into UE5. With the Chapter 4 Season 2 update today however, Fortnite has noted that those playing on Windows 7 or 8 will no longer be supported. Windows 10 or higher will now be required to play Fortnite.
