Former Remedy CEO Founds New Studio Redhill Games

The former CEO of Remedy Entertainment and Wargaming executive, Matias Myllyrinne, has founded a new studio named Redhill Games.  Redhill Games is currently comprised of thirteen games industry veterans with plans to continue to expand that number. First reported by VentureBeat, the new studio will focus on the development of free-to-play and games as a service titles for PC. “It’s a very competitive market in free-to-play games, but it’s been fun building a company with people are talented and have big dreams,” stated Myllyrinne.

Myllyrinne worked at Remedy Entertainment for 15 years and served as CEO from 2008 until 2015. He oversaw the development of titles such as Xbox exclusives Alan Wake and Quantum Break. He would then move on to World of Tanks developer Wargaming for a few years before starting this new venture. “After doing that, I felt like it was time to build something of my own,” Myllyrinne mentioned.

In the press release announcing the new studio, Myllyrinne states:

I’ve had the joy of working with so many wonderfully talented people since beginning in games in 1999. Redhill Games represents the best of the best from all my years of experience, bringing together some of the industry’s top professionals from various disciplines for a new adventure.

Another Remedy and Wargaming alum, Mikko Uromo, will serve as chief technical officer at the new studio. Along with Uromo, the studio’s other notable talent include Wargamming alumni Milos Jerabek, who served as development director of World of Tanks, and Ekaterina Dolgova who served as Wargaming’s head of HR and chief of staff of global development. The rest of the studio is comprised of talent from studios all around Europe. Myllyrinne went on to say that, “These are people who have collaborated closely before, and I’m confident our best games are still ahead of us.”

Redhill Games plans to make more announcements concerning future projects in 2019.

Zachary Dalton: I have a major passion for video games, the stories they tell, and writing about them. Avid believer that video games present the best storytelling opportunities out of any media, and that needs to be conveyed. Former competitive Pokemon player. Attended university to study game development. Wouldn't be who I am today without games.
