When Final Fantasy XVI was revealed, it was announced that the game would be a PlayStation 5 console launch exclusive and be available for PC. There were no details about the length of the game’s exclusivity but a new ad may have revealed that information. A new PlayStation 5 ad focused on the DualSense Wireless Controller featured a small selection of titles while going through all of DualSense’s features. The video features quick cuts of NBA 2k23 FIFA 23, God of War Ragnarok, Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us Part I, and Forspoken. At the bottom includes some details about the DualSense features and the game’s release date if applicable. According to the ad, Final Fantasy XVI will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 for 6 months.
Sony’s deals regarding exclusivity can vary. For instance, Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop were console exclusives on PS5 for 12 months. Forspoken is another Square Enix game that will be exclusive to PS5 when it launches on January 24, 2023. The ad shows that the game will be exclusive on PS5 until January 23, 2025.
The developers of Final Fantasy XVI have said that the game is “about 95%” done with development. Right now, they are focused on debugging and fixing any rough parts in the game that may need some extra care. Talking about the process, Final Fantasy XVI Main Director Hiroshi Takai laughed and said “we’ve forbidden anyone to add new code in case new bugs appear.”
Final Fantasy XVI is set for release in the Summer of 2023. The devs plan to reveal more information by the end of the year including a release date. “We plan to announce some more information before the end of the year, so I think we can announce it at that time,” Yoshida said before adding one more thing with a laugh. “I don’t think we’ll go beyond the summer, so I think it’s okay.”
