Final Fantasy XV Sends Out 5 Million Copies on Launch Day

Square Enix announced in a press release earlier today that they have shipped out, including digital sales, over five million copies on day one of Final Fantasy XV’s release. This achievement for the company makes it the fastest selling game in their history.

To accomplish such an achievement, Square Enix decided to release the game simultaneously worldwide. This is the first time in the franchises history where they made the decision to have the game become available at the exact same time throughout the world, which could very well be the reason for such a great start for the game. Keep in in mind however that the numbers provided do include copies sent to retailers to be sold.

To commemorate the release of the game, numerous special launch events also took place across the globe in Japan, North America (USA, Canada), Latin America (Mexico), Europe (UK and Belgium), and China (Shanghai) to celebrate the release with expectant fans from all regions of the world.

So far the game has had some good reviews coming out of the gate, most notably for its graphics and open world mentality. The game released on November 29th for Xbox One and PS4 and surpassed the previous record for launch day digital sales in Japan.

It would appear as so that after a long road since being announced at E3 2013, Final Fantasy XV is going to be a huge success for Square Enix. The studio stated earlier this year that to be a total success in their eyes, the game needs to reach 10 million units sold. Having already reached the halfway mark a day out of the gates, It would seem as though Final Fantasy 15 is on the right track.
