Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Has Been Delayed Until December 7

The eagerly anticipated Final Fantasy XIV expansion is almost here. Endwalker has some serious momentum behind it, and with the promise of more content to follow after the release, the future of Square Enix’s MMORPG is looking good. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to wait just a bit longer before we get our hands on it. Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida has announced through an online letter that the expansion has been delayed, buy about two weeks. Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will no longer launch on November 23 and will now instead release on December 7, with early access going out a few days earlier on December 3.

In the letter, Yoshida was very apologetic to the fanbase, saying that the responsibility falls solely on him. “Allow me to convey my sincerest apologies to our players, our Warriors of Light around the world who have been looking so forward to the release of Endwalker. I am truly sorry.” Yoshida continued by stating that the biggest reason for the delay was due to an imbalance of his two jobs, Director and Producer, which lead to him only recently playing through the game numerous times and finding little issues that he apparently felt needed to be dealt with immediately. “Unfortunately, the consequence of this was that we ended up in a situation where we cut into the time required for final quality assurance checks due to this time spent on additional improvements.”

This will be the first official time that Yoshida has delayed an aspect of Final Fantasy XIV before its scheduled release date, albeit a very short one. Considering that this expansion brings a close to the main storyline that began in A Realm Reborn, Yoshida has more than likely been extremely meticulous in ensuring that the launch goes off without a hitch. Regardless, and to be quite frank, it’s only a two-week difference. The fanbase is well aware of how passionate Yoshida is with this IP, and they also know that the wait will be well worth it. As we know, the expansion will bring in two brand new classes for players to use, a healer and a DPS, and will also send players on a mission to the Moon. Square Enix also released an official launch trailer for Endwalker, complete with the new launch date.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will now officially launch on December 7, with early access being available on December 3, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
