Naoki Hamaguchi, game programmer and director for the Final Fantasy VII Remake project recently revealed in an interview with 4Gamer, that their third title following Final Fantasy Remake and Rebirth is presently nine months along into development according to Gematsu.
When asked about the third title in the project Hamaguchi had this to say ”As for the third title, we started working on it right after “FFVII Rebirth” ended, in March-April 2024, so we’ve been developing it for about nine months already. Our goal for 2024 was to solidify the game experience we were aiming for in the final title of the Remake Project trilogy, and we were able to unify the will and vision of the entire team. From 2025, we will enter a phase where we will steadily create the entire game under a solid policy, and development is progressing at a good pace in line with the schedule I set for myself at the beginning. I can’t say when the next information will be available, but please look forward to it.”
Yoshinori Kitase, the project’s producer added details about his desire to tie any of the series loose ends “ I asked him to give it a greater sense of completeness since this is the final game. We just wrapped that up a few days ago, so I feel that things are progressing smoothly.” explaining that the story’s development is in fact completed at this time.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth marked a point in the the project where a title was not cross generational, Kitase assured 4gamer “No, no, don’t worry about that next time.” Hamaguchi later on mirrored this sentiment “As I said earlier, going forward, [Square Enix] plans to release titles across a wide range of platforms so that more people can enjoy them. While I can’t make any promises at this point, we want our games to be played by as many people as possible, so we’ll do our best.”
Fans of Final Fantasy VII may have to wait some time for the next game’s release, though knowing that the next title is well on its way to completion and with the recent release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC it may be here sooner than we think.
