Fina Fantasy VII Remake Director Gives Update On Game’s Development

During E3 2018, Japanese developer Square Enix returned to the convention for the first time in three years with their own conference. During this, they showed of a number of projects including Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Kingdom Hearts III, Just Cause 4, and Dragon Quest XI. However, in the wake of all of these big titles that were shown, fans did find a certain anticipated title missing from their line up this year.

Many were hoping that Final Fantasy VII Remake would be making some sort of appearance during the presentation, but unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. Little to no news was released about the project either. According to recent reports, the game has had it’s share of development issues as Square Enix has completely abandoned all of the work that CyberConnect 2 had previously done on the game and proceeded to move development on the game completely in house.

With that troubling news, there are many that are curious on what the current state of the game is currently. Developers have been very quiet about the game’s progress so far, but recently, there has been some reassuring news involving the game and it’s development. Within the latest issue of Famitsu, game director Testsuya Nomura stated that the production of Final Fantasy VII Remake is not only “going well” but is “moving along more than expected.”

He explained that “the direction was pretty much decided upon” before the big development shift and that “while preserving the atmosphere of the original, the scenario will dig deeper into the characters, including members of Avalanche.” He also added that people should “wait for the next news release with peace of mind.” Fans will be happy to hear that the game is making progress in its development and that Square Enix will have something worth while to show them sooner rather than later.
