With the rising success of digital card games in today’s gaming world, it’s no surprise certain game developers are jumping on board. Blizzard has had great success with Hearthstone after its release in 2014 and are still releasing DLC on a frequent basis. The Elder Scrolls: Legends followed after, published by Bethesda Softworks in 2017 and received a score of 4.5 out of 5 on Google Play. Now Gungho has released their very own Capcom influenced card game Teppen, and have changed things up a bit introducing a real-time battle system and keeping matches under 5 minutes.
In the world of Teppen, Capcom universes have collided giving you ability to pick and face off foes from a variety of different franchises. Some playable heroes who can command your decks are familiar faces like Ryu, Chunli, Megaman, and even Albert Wesker. The game allows you to dive into a Story Mode option to get a taste of the clashing worlds. This can naturally set you up with good practice to take on real players, as Teppen contains a Ranked mode and a Grand Prix mode that allows you to participate in special battles for a limited time.
All though very similar to Hearthstone, Teppen has a very different approach when it comes to the classic turn-based system. The majority of the matches happen in real-time, making this a much faster paced card game. Unit cards that are put down will attack on their own either the enemy unit in front of them, or the players hero if they fail to build up their defensive line. Ability points also build up over time giving the player to use a strong hero ability to turn the tables. Time only stops briefly during action cards, similar to spells, giving the players the chance to counter the opposing players action card played. Not only that, games run on a 5 minute timer so games don’t get drawn out for more that 20 minutes like other similar games.
Teppen is free-to-play and is now available on iOS and Android devices. In game purchases are possible for those who might want to get a jump-start on their deck making and players can also look forwarded to new Capcom heroes being released in the near future. More information about the game can be found on the Google Play Store.
